Release from Zuffa Boxing

Shakur Stevenson has officially parted ways with Zuffa Boxing, becoming a free agent without having fought for the promotion. The undefeated WBO light welterweight champion announced the news on his YouTube channel, stating that his request for a release was granted over the weekend. This decision comes less than four months after his signing was announced.

Reasons for Departure

Stevenson cited frustration over ongoing delays in fight scheduling as the primary reason for his departure. He mentioned spending eight weeks in training camps for fights that did not materialize. While he expressed no blame towards anyone involved, he emphasized the need to take control of his career.

Future Plans

In addition to becoming a free agent, Stevenson revealed his intention to launch his own promotional company. He remains open to collaborating with other promoters to secure significant matchups. Stevenson, who recently captured the light welterweight title, is focused on defending his title and pursuing major fights at both 135 and 140 pounds. He has plans to eventually move up to welterweight but intends to do so on his own schedule.

Stevenson’s last fight was a unanimous decision victory over Teofimo Lopez in January, which earned him the light welterweight title. He has previously held championships in multiple weight classes, including featherweight and lightweight.
