Oban Elliott Prepares for Fight After Recent Setbacks
Oban Elliott reflects on his recent losses and prepares for his upcoming fight in Serbia.

Elliott's Journey to Recovery
Oban Elliott traveled to Sydney earlier this year with a strong desire to prove himself after facing Jonathan Micallef in September 2025. Elliott was unable to compete due to pneumonia, which led to Micallef questioning his integrity. In their fight, Elliott started off well, winning the first round and maintaining his momentum into the second. However, a left hand from Micallef struck him in the eye, impairing his vision. Despite his efforts to push through, Micallef took advantage, securing a submission that left Elliott waking up in disbelief.
This loss marked a significant turning point for Elliott, who had entered 2025 with considerable momentum following a knockout victory at Madison Square Garden to end his 2024 season. However, he now finds himself on a two-fight losing streak as he arrives in Serbia.
Mindset Shift After UFC London
Initially, Elliott was hesitant to attend the UFC event in London earlier this year as a guest fighter, concerned about how fans would perceive him after two consecutive losses. Ultimately, he decided to go, and the positive reception he received helped shift his mindset. The 28-year-old has faced numerous challenges in his personal life and has chosen to adopt a different perspective on these obstacles, moving away from the need to constantly prove himself.
Elliott acknowledges the unpredictable nature of MMA, understanding that unexpected events can alter the course of a fight. Despite this, he maintains a strong belief in his abilities as he prepares to face Michael Oliveira on August 1. One of the key factors fueling his confidence is the feeling he experienced during the early moments of his fight against Micallef.
Confidence Boost from Training
Elliott expressed that he had never been able to fully translate his training into his performances until UFC 325. This realization has prompted a complete mental overhaul ahead of his upcoming fight. He reflected on his experience, stating that he now knows he can perform at a high level consistently.
He emphasized his readiness to embrace the challenges of the Octagon, stating that he has never struggled to perform under pressure. As fight week approaches, he feels more prepared than ever, having established a structured approach to his training and mindset.
Anticipation for the Fight
When asked about the possibility of standing victorious in the Octagon after overcoming recent hardships, Elliott envisioned the moment with excitement. He fantasized about addressing the crowd with an opening line that reflects his journey and determination. He believes that this fight is an opportunity to showcase the hard work he has put in and to enjoy the experience.
Elliott is set to compete in UFC Fight Night: Medić vs Rodriguez, taking place live from Belgrade Arena in Serbia on August 1, 2026.
