Jones' Retirement and Recent Activity

Former two-division UFC champion Jon Jones has addressed his future in mixed martial arts. After vacating his UFC heavyweight title last year, Jones announced his retirement rather than face interim champion Tom Aspinall. Recently, he expressed interest in fighting Alex Pereira on June 14, but the UFC did not include him in that event.

Health Concerns and UFC's Stance

Reports indicate that Jones is dealing with severe hip arthritis. UFC President Dana White suggested that Jones is unlikely to compete again due to his hip issues. In response, Jones criticized the UFC for not meeting his contractual expectations, which contributed to his decision to withdraw from the June event. He also requested his release from the promotion, but the UFC has yet to grant it.

Current Status and Future Possibilities

Despite his challenges, Jones has undergone stem cell treatment for his hip and reports feeling improvements. In a recent interaction on social media, he stated, "More than likely, I won’t fight again, but as of right now I’m still getting drug tested. Leaving doors open, you never know what the future holds." His comments suggest that while retirement seems probable, he is not completely closing the door on a potential return.

Jones has also been active in coaching, helping his protégé Gable Steveson prepare for his UFC debut. Steveson won his first fight but faced a knockout loss in his latest bout.

As of now, there are no confirmed plans for Jones to return to the octagon.
