Chris Billam-Smith faces Cheavon Clarke in a 10-round cruiserweight bout at Zuffa Boxing 12 on Saturday, November 7, at London’s Copper Box Arena. The fight will be broadcast live on Sky Sports and Paramount+ and marks their first meeting as professionals.

Billam-Smith's amateur history with Clarke

Billam-Smith has a former WBO title to his name, but he still carries the memory of two amateur defeats to Clarke. One came in the 2016 national amateur championship final, a loss that ended Billam-Smith’s long pursuit of that tournament title.

The history has given the bout a personal edge. Billam-Smith told Sky Sports in October that the old losses still motivate him. That feeling could add urgency, but focusing too heavily on revenge risks pulling him away from the work needed to win a professional fight.

A victory would keep Billam-Smith moving toward another major title run. Yet, if he dominates Clarke, the result may do little to change his standing: Billam-Smith is the former world champion, while Clarke has so far reached British and European contention. The amateur bouts carry personal meaning, but they do not add professional accomplishments to either fighter’s record.

Clarke's win over Jack Massey

Both men arrive after stoppage victories on the same Bournemouth card. Billam-Smith stopped Ryan Rozicki in seven rounds, while Clarke was dropped twice by Jack Massey in June before rallying to stop him.

Clarke’s recovery showed his resilience, although the knockdowns also exposed defensive openings. Billam-Smith has a reason to test him early, but the Massey fight is also a warning: hurting Clarke does not mean the contest is over. A rushed attack could leave Billam-Smith open to counters.

The risk is significant for Billam-Smith. He has been hit cleanly in almost every fight, and Clarke has shown he can punch. A loss or a damaging performance against a domestic contender could undermine Billam-Smith’s attempt to return to the title picture and pursue another major payday. Clarke, 35, turned professional late, while Billam-Smith has the more established professional career and experience in demanding championship rounds.

Their 10-round cruiserweight bout is scheduled to headline Zuffa Boxing 12 on November 7 at the Copper Box Arena in London, with coverage on Sky Sports and Paramount+.
