Alex Pereira Discusses Challenges of Transitioning to Boxing

Pereira's UFC Commitment

Alex Pereira, a former two-division UFC champion, has stated that transitioning to boxing is nearly impossible for him at this time. Earlier this year, Pereira signed a new eight-fight contract with the UFC and vacated his light heavyweight title to move up to heavyweight. He made his heavyweight debut on June 14 against Ciryl Gane but was knocked out in the second round.

Age and Contract Limitations

At 39 years old, Pereira believes that his age combined with the remaining fights on his UFC contract makes a boxing career unlikely. In a recent interview, he noted, "We have seven fights left on my UFC contract. I’m 39. It’s kind of impossible."

Upcoming Fight Against Pavlovich

Despite the challenges of a boxing transition, Pereira is set to face Sergei Pavlovich in the co-main event of UFC 335 on December 12. This matchup, which will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, is expected to be a five-round heavyweight bout and could serve as a title eliminator.

Pereira's coach, Plinio Cruz, is also making headlines as he prepares for his Misfits debut against Gary Olive this weekend.
